The Case of the Sleeping Student

So I have this babysitting job once a week.  It's on Wednesday mornings from 7:45-10:30.  I love the little boy I babysit.   He's so cute and smiley!  The trouble is, I'm pretty sure I'm about to lose the job.

Why?  Well, the answer is simple enough.  I have been late due to oversleeping no less than 6 of 11 times.  Pretty bad, right?  I've tried just about everything I can think of: going to bed early, setting multiple alarms, having my employer text me as a reminder.  It's looking pretty grim, folks.  So, what's a girl to do?

I really don't want to lose the job, but the parents of this little boy need to get to work/school in a timely manner and if they can't depend on me, then that's a problem.  This morning, I actually woke up to my alarm, couldn't figure out why it went off so early and adjusted it to go off at 9:45.  It will be a miracle if I still have this job by the end of the month.

Any advice?

Keep a schedule/calendar religiously. Then, make a habit of looking at it before you go to bed, and as soon as you wake up, so you know what to expect from the day, and when to set your alarm at night.

After that, just trust the schedule, and trust that your alarm is set for a reason.

Rule #1: Your alarm clock must be far enough away from you that you have to get out of bed to turn it off, or else you are just fooling yourself.

Rule #2: Multiple alarms in different places throughout the room.

Rule #3: Mix up times you set them for and the places you leave them so that you have to think before you can turn them off.

Rule #4: Use your cell phone as 1 of them and set it to use vibrate mode in addition to ringing, then leave it on some wooden furniture so that it makes the most painful noise you will ever hear while coming out of sleep. If that doesn't get you up, not much else will.

Rule #5: If the first 4 rules don't work, you need to outsource your alarming to another person that gets up before you and knows how to be really annoying in their efforts to get you out of bed.
